The Maryland Fire Chiefs Association (MFCA) represents volunteer and career Chief Officers throughout Maryland. The MFCA helps members maintain and develop their management and leadership skills, through proactive leadership, education, and advocacy.
The Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI) of the University of Maryland is the State’s comprehensive training and education system for the emergency services. The Institute plans, researches, develops, and delivers quality programs to enhance the ability of emergency service providers to protect life, the environment, and property.

MIEMSS oversees and coordinates all components of Maryland’s EMS system in accordance with state statute and regulation, including: planning, operations, evaluation, and research. MIEMSS provides leadership and medical direction, conducts and supports EMS educational programs, operates and maintains a statewide communications system, designates trauma and specialty centers, licenses and regulates commercial ambulance services, and participates in EMS-related public education and prevention programs.
MEMA is a national leader in Emergency Management that provides Maryland residents, organizations, and emergency management partners with expert information, programmatic activities, and leadership in the delivery of financial, technical and physical resources.
Through a collaborative effort between the Department of Justice and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), resources and training have helped establish Maryland Local Assistance State Team (LAST) to deploy and provide much-needed assistance to fire departments and a firefighter’s family immediately following a line-of-duty death.
The MSP Aviation Command protects and improves the quality of life through the airborne delivery of emergency medical transportation, law enforcement, search and rescue, homeland security and disaster assessment services to citizens of the State of Maryland and its neighbors 24 hours a day.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) is an agency of the Maryland Department of State Police. OSFM is responsible for statewide fire, arson, and explosive investigations, enforcement of the State Fire Prevention Code, coordination of fire prevention efforts, and the collection of fire incident data.

Congress created the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) to lead a nationwide effort to honor America’s fallen firefighters. Since 1992, the tax-exempt, non-profit Foundation has developed and expanded programs to honor our fallen fire heroes and assist their families and co-workers.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is a global, self-funded, non-profit organization, devoted to eliminating death, injury, property and economic loss due to fire, electrical and related hazards. NFPA delivers information and knowledge through more than 300 consensus codes and standards, research, training, education, outreach and advocacy.
The National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) advocates to protect lives and property through the widespread acceptance of the fire sprinkler concept. The NFSA accomplishes this through a variety of means, including: working closely with lawmakers on both state and local levels to advance the fire sprinkler concept; media appearances; live fire sprinkler demonstrations; and Model Code and Standard development.
